"Deeply colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Lithology is a beautiful, classic wine that offers rock-solid value in Napa Valley today. Cassis, currants, toasted spices, new saddle leather, and dried herb notes all give way to a seamless, sexy, medium to full-bodied beauty that has no hard edges, terrific balance, and just loads of upfront charm and character. The blend is 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Petit Verdot, from a mix of St. Helena, Oakville, and Rutherford, that was brought up in 60% new French oak." - Jeb Dunnuck
An inviting perfume begs exploration. Muddled ripe bing cherry, fresh raspberry leaf, plums, cherry candy, and blueberry cobbler overwhelm the senses with bountiful fruit. A subtle violet flower and dried herb tone suggest this wine's feminine nature, leading to easy entry on the palate that delivers a medium body and lengthy finish. Subtle spice and damp cedar weave between the aroma and palate in the background. Pleasurable and balanced.
From abundant winter rains to cool spring weather, warm summer temperatures, and October’s wildfires, this vintage may be more memorable than most. During the growing season, abundant winter rains refreshed groundwater supplies and led to a cool, mild spring; an unusual hailstorm in early June had little effect on the crop; we were well prepared for summertime heat events. Although the fires were a terrible human tragedy, taking lives and destroying property, the Napa Valley wine industry, its wineries, and its vineyards were largely spared. Within our production, all fruit utilized was harvested before the fires began.
